At Warwickshire Young Carers, we believe it is important that young carers and young adult carers have a voice and are involved in shaping the support they receive. Engagement is a key part of our work, helping us to listen, learn and make sure our services reflect the needs and experiences of the young people we support.
We create opportunities for young carers to share their views, ideas and experiences in ways that feel safe, positive and meaningful. This might include taking part in group discussions, feedback sessions, surveys, creative activities, consultations or projects designed to influence the development of our service. By listening to young carers, we can better understand what matters most to them and how we can continue to improve the support we offer.
Engagement also helps young carers build confidence, develop new skills and feel empowered to speak up about the issues that affect their lives. For many young people, it is an opportunity to feel heard, make a difference and connect with others who understand their experiences.
Our engagement work also extends into the wider community. We work closely with schools, colleges, families, social care, other agencies and local organisations to help raise awareness of young carers and the challenges they may face. By building strong partnerships across Warwickshire, we aim to encourage earlier identification, improve access to support and ensure that young carers are recognised, valued and heard within their communities.
Community engagement is an important part of helping young carers feel less isolated. Through partnership working, shared learning and awareness-raising, we can help create a more informed and supportive environment for young carers and their families. We are committed to working with the community to improve understanding of young carers’ needs and to make sure their voices help shape both our service and the wider support available to them.
Why Engagement Matters
Engagement gives young carers the chance to share their views, help shape services and activities, build confidence, and feel listened to and valued. It also helps us strengthen our links with the wider community so that young carers can be identified early and supported in the right way.
How We Engage
We engage with young carers and the wider community in a range of ways, including gathering feedback from young carers and families, involving young people in the development of services, working alongside schools and partner organisations, and raising awareness of young carers through partnership working and community links across Warwickshire.
Our Commitment
We are committed to making sure the voices of young carers are at the heart of everything we do. By listening to young people and working positively with families, professionals and the wider community, we can continue to shape services that meet real needs and make a meaningful difference.
