Young Carers meet with John Slinger MP

25 November 2024

A group of our Young Carers met with John Slinger MP to talk about the barriers they face in education and their journey towards higher education and adulthood.

Mr Slinger regularly advocates for Young Carers in Parliament and was keen to hear directly from them. As part of his role within the APPG for Young Carers, he listened as they shared honest and powerful insights into their lives.

They spoke with confidence, passion and real clarity about the challenges they face and the support that is still needed to help Young Carers achieve success in education and preparation for adulthood. We were incredibly proud of every single one of them.

Mr Slinger said:

“It was really good to meet you all. I have immense respect for young carers such as you, because you do so much for those you care for, all too often at cost to other aspects of your lives, and this is all too often undervalued in society and there isn't enough support. I'll do whatever I can to support you and will take up the issues you raised in Parliament.”

Thank you to Rugby Free Secondary School for hosting us and helping to make this important conversation happen.
